Saskatchewan Reaches New Population Record
Hon. Mr. McLeod: — Mr. Speaker, this past weekend Saskatchewan hit yet another record. Our population reached 1.22 million people. That puts us well on our way to achieving our growth plan target of 1.4 million people by 2030. As our Premier has previously said, this province’s growing economy, job opportunities, and great quality of life are all reasons for the huge jump in population. In fact our very own Minister of Highways and his wife, Meagan, contributed to this population growth when they welcomed their newborn baby son to their family and our province just last week.
Mr. Speaker, this population growth is confirming what we already know to be true: Saskatchewan is the best place to live, work, and raise a family. And you know, Mr. Speaker, while the members opposite continue to talk down our economy, on this side of the House we are certainly proud of the growth that we are seeing.
When the NDP were in charge, we saw investments flee, population decrease, and our best and brightest settled elsewhere. But under this government we are seeing limitless potential in the form of jobs, economic growth, and opportunities, Mr. Speaker. And that is why 1.22 million people now call Saskatchewan home.
We are proud that under this government we are seeing record investments and population growth. And, Mr. Speaker, we can truly say that this is growth that works for everyone. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
