Treat Others With Kindness at Christmas

Mr. McLeod: — Thank you, Mr. Speaker. As we enter this holiday season, my wife, Tenielle, has once again transformed our home and made preparations for another wonderful Christmas. But so much more than the gifts and decorations, Tenielle will set the tone for the holiday spirit in our house. She will do this by arranging to spend time with family and friends, sharing smiles, fellowship, and traditions. In much the same way, Mr. Speaker, the members of this House have the ability to set the tone for our province moving forward. We can do that by demonstrating an attitude of respect and concern for our neighbours. We can listen to others with open hearts and open minds.

Indeed these are the lessons we learned from God’s gift to this world, the reason for the season, Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. When you unwrap the fullness of the baby in that manger, you find that God’s gift grew up, and he taught us how to love one another. Regardless of our differences, he taught us that the overarching law of life is to care for one another.

So, Mr. Speaker, this Christmas I will make an extra effort to treat others with kindness, compassion, and love, not judgment or condemnation. And I ask the members of this Assembly to please join me in setting that tone for this holiday season and the months to follow. From my family to all of yours, Merry Christmas, and all the best to you and those you love and serve in 2022.
